5 Peaks Canmore Nordic Centre #2
The event takes place at the Canmore Nordic Centre, the venue for the 1988 Winter Olympic nordic and biathlon events. The course uses a network of singletrack and doubletrack trails around the main stadium, with mountain views.
Available distances:
- Kids - 1 km
- Kids - 3 km
- Sport Run or Hike - 6.5 km
- Enduro Run or Hike - 13 km
- Grit Run - 19.3 km
The course features steep climbs, technical and flowy singletrack sections, notable elevation gain, and loops through lower and upper trail areas that allow runners to see others on course. The start and finish are located at the main stadium, which overlooks the mountains and hosts an audible DJ during the event.
Course rules and logistics: dogs, headphones, and strollers are not permitted; hiking poles are allowed only in non-competitive hiking categories. Participants in Sport, Enduro, and Grit are required to carry bear spray; children in the 1 km and 3 km events are not required to carry bear spray and additional volunteers will carry spray on those courses. Washroom facilities are available at the start/finish area. Parking is available in main and overflow lots near the Day Lodge and a Kananaskis Pass is required for the day.
The event is cup-free, so no cups will be provided at the start, finish, or aid stations; water and electrolyte drink are available at the start/finish and at one or more aid stations. If on course for more than an hour, participants should carry a receptacle for liquids and nutrition. Race distances and maps are subject to change based on trail conditions. Swag and finisher medals are not included with individual registration, must be picked up at the race, and will not be mailed. Awards include medals for the top three finishers in each gender by age and distance category, and the top three male and female overall.
