3 Marathons in 3 Days : Kuranda, 8–10 July 2027
The 16th edition of 3 Marathons in 3 Days runs across three consecutive days from Thursday 8 July to Saturday 10 July 2027. Each day covers a marathon-length trail course with different start and finish locations. Finish locations include Crystal Cascades (Thursday), Copperlode Dam (Friday, which is also a start and finish), and Goomboora Park (Saturday). Saturday’s start is at the corner of Clohesy River Road and Cedar Park Road in Koah; Thursday’s start is at Wright’s Lookout in Kuranda.
The event is described as a trail race for experienced runners. Courses include varied and technical terrain with hills and overgrown single track, and specific sections named Snake Gully (5 km) and Vivier’s Track (6 km) that can take significantly longer than flat running of the same distance. Competitors should expect obstacles such as fallen trees, washed out sections, snakes, and orb spiders.
Safety and logistics notes state that tap water is available only at checkpoints, with extended dry sections between taps. On Saturday water will be placed along Lake Morris Road at roughly three kilometre intervals. If runners plan to refill from creeks they must carry a personal purification method.
Mandatory gear requirements include compression bandages (1 x AeroForm Snake 10cm x 10.5m or 2 x Elastoplast heavy crepe 10cm x 2.3m or 2 x Handy’s heavy crepe 10cm x 2.3m), a race bib, a whistle, a hydration system with minimum 2 litre capacity, sufficient nutrition for each day, and course maps or descriptions on a mobile device or on paper.
Pre-race and post-race social events are listed with local venues, and transport and course maps are provided in the event information materials. Briefings and additional competitor documents are issued closer to race weekend. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
