3 Marathons in 3 Days - 9 to 11 July 2026
This event is a three-day trail running series scheduled for 9 to 11 July 2026 and described as the 15th edition. Each day follows marked routes in the Cairns area with varied terrain and trail features; competitors are expected to familiarise themselves with course descriptions and maps before racing.
Routes include steep and overgrown single-track sections and specific slow sections such as Snake Gully (5 km) on Thursday and Vivier’s Track (6 km) on Friday. Trail hazards listed include fallen trees, branches, washed-out sections, snakes and orb spiders. The organisers note that running time can be affected by terrain and obstacles.
Water is available only at checkpoints for most of the course. On Saturday, water will be placed along Lake Morris Road at approximately three-kilometre intervals. Participants who plan to use creek water must carry their own purification method.
Mandatory gear requirements are strict: an approved compression bandage (specified options), race bib, a whistle, a hydration system with a minimum two litre capacity, and sufficient nutrition for each day. Course maps and descriptions must be carried on a mobile device or on paper.
Additional logistics: pre-race dinner is scheduled for Wednesday 8 July at Dunwoody’s Tavern, Cairns North; post-race presentations and after party start at 6.00pm on Saturday at Edge Hill Bowls Club, Edge Hill. Finish locations are Crystal Cascades (Thursday), Copperlode Dam (Friday) and Goomboora Park with the Saturday start near Clohesy River Road in Koah. Transport and competitor information including race rules, checkpoints and support crew details will be provided closer to race weekend. The event is intended for experienced trail runners and entrants are advised not to race if injured or unwell. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
