3 Legged Monster Race : August 15, 2026
The 3 Legged Monster Race is a three-leg outdoor relay for teams of two on the Ozark Trail within the Mark Twain National Forest. The course combines trail running, mountain biking and paddling and passes through the Huzzah Conservation Area and local waterways.
Distances offered:
- 55 miles, two-person relay
- 33 miles, two-person relay
The running leg travels from Ozark Outdoors toward Bass’ River Resort along the Ozark Trail, passing bluff overlooks, large mossy rocks, seasonal waterfalls and hardwood forest. Mountain bikers ride singletrack and gravel through pine and oak stands, climbing to cherty ridges; one section is designated an IMBA "epic" ride. The paddling leg follows Courtois and Huzzah Creeks before merging onto the Meramec River and arriving at an eastern gravel bar near a bridge.
Base locations include two start areas: runners at Ozark Outdoors Riverfront Resort near Leasburg and mountain bikers at Bass’ River Resort near Steelville. Aid station locations are listed for each leg with mile markers; the final mountain bike route may vary between 22 and 30 miles once finalized.
Logistics notes: cell service is limited, paddles will be provided by Bass’ River Resort, camping reservations are separate, and registration fees are nonrefundable though an alternative date may be considered for extreme conditions. Proceeds support the Ozark Trail Association, a 501c(3). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
