3 Legged Monster Race
The 3 Legged Monster Race is a team relay for pairs that combines trail running, mountain biking and paddling on the Ozark Trail within the Mark Twain National Forest. The event uses two start locations: runners start at Ozark Outdoors Riverfront Resort near Leasburg, and mountain bikers start at Bass' River Resort near Steelville.
The running leg follows Ozark Trail terrain to Bass’ River Resort through the Huzzah Conservation Area. The route passes bluff overlooks, mossy rock outcrops, seasonal waterfalls and hardwood forests.
The mountain biking leg traverses pine groves and timbered stands of oak, pine and bottomland hardwood. Part of the ride is designated by IMBA as "epic" and includes singletrack, switchback climbs and gravel sections across varying terrain.
The paddling leg follows Courtois Creek and Huzzah Creek and then the Meramec River to the finish on an eastern gravel bar near a bridge. Paddles are provided by Bass’ River Resort. Organizers note that waterways will be busy, which can affect downstream paddling speed.
Course options and distances:
- Short course: Run 7 miles; MTB 11 miles; Paddle 12 miles
