17.76 mile Heritage Trail Freedom Walk
This walking event is organized by FreeWalkers.org and begins and ends at Franklin Square in Philadelphia. It opens with a 4 mile loop through Historic Philadelphia that returns to the start and then continues along the Delaware River Heritage Trail for a longer route up to 17.76 mile. The surface is paved and the route follows urban and riverside paths.
The event is presented as part of a weekend of activities celebrating America’s 250th birthday and the Delaware River Heritage Trail. The program is one of several scheduled trail events in the region during the season. Transit access includes SEPTA and PATCO; parking details are listed as TBD.
The walk is described as history, urban, and scenic in category and is expected to pass a number of historic and waterfront sites, including Franklin Square, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross House, Washington Square, Race Street Pier, Penn Treaty Park, the Ben Franklin Bridge, Walt Whitman house, Cooper River Trail, Cramer Hill Park, and Cooper’s Poynt Park. The organizer lists a mini option as a four mile history loop and indicates the full experience covers the Delaware River Heritage Trail on both sides of the river.
Refunds are available up to seven days before the event. Further logistical details are noted as coming soon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
