Göteborgsvarvet
Göteborgsvarvet is an annual half marathon held in Gothenburg, Sweden. The event features a 21 km course that passes through various landmarks including the Slottsskogen park, the quays of Hisingen, and the city's main boulevard, Avenyn. The atmosphere along the route is supported by approximately 200,000 spectators and 50 music stations.
The event is organized by the Gothenburg Athletics Association to support local athletic activities and the maintenance of the Friidrottens Hus training facility. Participants are placed into start groups based on a seeding system where their pace determines their starting position. A specialized Expo is organized in the days leading up to the race, serving as a meeting place with running inspiration and equipment.
In addition to the main half marathon, the event week includes several other categories:
- 21 km: The classic half marathon distance.
- 4.3 km (Cityvarvet): A shorter race starting at Götaplatsen and finishing at Slottsskogsvallen.
- Relay (Stafettvarvet): A four-person team relay through Slottsskogen.
- Specialvarvet: A race of 1.4 km or 2.4 km adapted for people with functional variations.
- Lilla Varvet: A race for children and youth aged 7-13.
- Minivarvet: A 210-meter course for children aged 0-6.
Sustainability is a key focus for the organizers across several areas of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
