Walking Tall 50/25K
Walking Tall takes place on October 17, 2026 in Pocahontas, Tennessee at Big Hill Pond State Park. The event offers two trail distances:
- 50K : about 31 miles, mostly single-track trail.
- 25K : about 15.5 miles, mostly single-track trail.
Courses include mostly single-track trails with some park road. Notable features are a fire tower that runners may climb and a swamp boardwalk over half a mile long. The fire tower has a special finishers procedure: runners who climb to the top and get their bib punched receive a challenge coin in addition to the finisher item. Top three places and course records require climbing to the top; an alternative of completing the same number of stairs on the tower first floor still counts as a legit finish.
Aid station locations are listed for each distance. The 25K has full aid at miles 6.5, 9.6, and 12.5. The 50K shares the same first half then continues on the opposite side of the park with full aid stations at miles 15.5 (drop bag), 18.4, 23.0, 26.1, and 27.5.
Time limits are strict: a 9 hour limit for the 50K and an 8 hour limit for the 25K. There is a course cut at mile 26.1. Year round camping is available at Big Hill Pond. The event is not for profit; proceeds go to Big Hill Pond and the Tennessee Park Rangers Association. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
