Zanfel Orienteering Race # 3
Zanfel Orienteering Race # 3 takes place on October 3, 2026, at the lodge and lake area at the south end of Waubonsie Park, 2585 Waubonsie Park Road, Hamburg, IA. The course distance is 5 Miles and combines running and hiking with map-based navigation to locate checkpoints.
The event follows an orienteering format: participants read maps and written instructions to find marked checkpoints. This is the third race in the orienteering series. Divisions include solo, coed, men, women, and two to three person teams. The event is self supported and has a four hour cutoff time.
Maps, written instructions, and punch cards are handed out at check in, and staff can provide assistance with maps at that time. Organizers note that map cases, cell phones, and small packs for water and snacks are appropriate for the course. The free app Handy GPS is mentioned as a navigation aid. Park permits are available at the park entrance.
