Youlgrave's Pommie Panter Fell Race
The Pommie Panter is a traditional Peak District fell race starting and finishing in the village of Youlgrave, Derbyshire. The event follows Fell Running Association (FRA) rules and licenses. The course covers a distance of 5.8 miles (9.3 km) with a total ascent of 876 feet (267 m).
The terrain consists of a mixture of rough trails, open fields, and short sections of country lane. Participants will encounter low-level technical parts and a swamp. Approximately 80% of the route crosses potential grazing land, and the limestone on descents can become slippery. The race is classified as partially marked and marshalled, though organizers recommend that runners possess some navigation skills or local knowledge.
Registration takes place at the Alport Lane Playing Fields, with the start located near the Village Well on Moor Lane and the finish line situated on the Main Street between the village shop and a local pub. The event has a strict entry limit of 200 participants due to local parking constraints. All profits from the event are donated to the Youlgrave Parish Council to fund village facilities.
Prizes are awarded for various categories:
- Overall winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for Male and Female)
- Age categories from 40+ to 80+ (1st place only)
- Local "Bugle" medals for residents within the specific delivery area
