Youlgrave Pommie Panter Fell Race
The Pommie Panter is a short fell race held in Youlgrave, Derbyshire. The course is 5.8 miles / 9.3 km with about 876 ft / 267 m of climb. The route runs on public paths and combines rough trails, open fields, short sections of country lane, some low level technical ground and a swamp. Limestone descents can be slippery and cattle may be present on grazing land.
The race is run under Fell Running Association rules and licence. The route is partially marked and marshalled, so basic navigation or local knowledge and a course recce are recommended. The organisers limit entries (conservative limit 175 entrants) and charge a pre-entry fee of £6. All profits are donated to Youlgrave Parish Council for village facilities; past purchases include benches, a picnic bench and an outdoor table tennis table.
Venue facilities include parking at Alport Lane Playing Fields (DE45 1WN) and three toilet blocks at the playing fields, near the village hall start area and at Coldwell End car park. Finish facilities include water with paper cups and proximity to The George pub, which serves as the event hub after the race. Medals are awarded for overall and age-category winners and special Bugle medals are given to the first male and female within the Bugle delivery area. Minimum age for entry is 16.
