Yorkshire Reservoir Dogs
The Yorkshire Reservoir Dogs is a trail running event that features a variety of distances passing through scenic waterside locations. The routes are designed to take runners by several bodies of water including Lindley Wood, Swinsty, Fewston, and Thruscross reservoirs. Longer distance participants also pass John O'Gaunt, Beaver Dyke, Scargill, and Eccup reservoirs. The course traverses notable landmarks such as Stainburn Forest and Almscliffe Crag.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- 13 miles (Half Marathon)
- 20 miles
- 34 miles (Ultramarathon)
The terrain includes significant elevation changes, with the half marathon featuring 1400 feet of climb, the 20-mile route featuring 1900 feet, and the ultramarathon reaching 3500 feet. The event is part of a larger race series and has a maximum capacity of 200 entrants. Registration takes place at The Bridge Church in Otley, while participant parking is available at the Craftsman Tools car park on Bremner Street.
All ultramarathon participants are provided with a GPS tracker, which is also available for hire for those in the shorter distances. The routes are marked with tape, flags, or signs shortly before the event. Mandatory kit requirements apply to all runners, including waterproof jackets with taped seams, survival bags, and a hard copy of the map or route description. Checkpoints along the course provide water, cola, and snacks. At the finish line, participants receive a medal and a T-shirt, and hot food such as homemade pie and chili is provided.
Dogs are permitted to participate in the race subject to specific organization rules, but they are not allowed inside the church building used for registration and the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
