YMCA Harrisburg Marathon
The YMCA Harrisburg Marathon is a long-standing running event in Pennsylvania's capital city, now in its 54th year. The event serves as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon and is characterized by a flat and fast course. Participants run through a variety of environments, including urban streets, forested paths, and natural features along the river. The route also crosses several bridges, providing views of the local landscape.
The event offers multiple participation options:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- Relay
The race is part of the Harrisburg Area YMCA Race Series, which supports community programs for youth development and healthy living. The course is designed to be accessible for different experience levels, utilizing the flat terrain of the downtown and riverfront areas. Spectators often gather along the route and at the finish line to support the runners.
In addition to the marathon held in November, the race series includes several other events throughout the year in the Harrisburg area. These range from mile sprints to half marathons, many of which utilize City Island and Riverfront Park. Proceeds from these events contribute to the charitable missions of the local YMCA branches.
