About the race
The XTERRA North American Championship is a three-day off road triathlon and trail running festival held May 21–23, 2027 at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The weekend includes stops on the XTERRA World Cup and the XTERRA World Tour, plus North American and Youth North American Championship events. The site will also host the USA Triathlon Youth & Junior Cross National Championship.
The program includes multiple individual races and distances, for example:
- Full Distance Triathlon: swim 1.5K, bike 30K, run 10K
- Sprint Triathlon: swim 750m, bike 14K, run 5K
- Super Sprint Triathlon: swim 400m, bike 7K, run 2K
- Short Track Triathlon: swim 400m, bike 7.5K, run 3K
- 5K Trail Run: run 5K
The event presents an elite prize purse of $30,000 and awards points within the XTERRA series. Surrounding the racing are festival elements such as live music, beer gardens, food trucks, and kids races. Course grading varies from easy to difficult across different routes.
Volunteers are invited to support roles like course marshals, timing, and aid stations; volunteers are offered an event t-shirt, food, and may be eligible for a complimentary race entry. All multi sport athletes are required to hold a USA Triathlon license or a one event Bronze Membership for race coverage. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
