XTERRA North American Championship
The XTERRA North American Championship is a three-day multi-sport festival held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. As a stop on the XTERRA World Tour and World Cup, the event brings together off-road triathlon and trail running competitions. The venue features a diverse trail system maintained by the Birmingham Urban Mountain Pedalers (BUMP).
The weekend includes several distinct race formats:
- Full Distance Triathlon: 1.5 km swim, 30 km mountain bike, and 10 km trail run.
- Sprint Triathlon: 750 m swim, 14 km mountain bike, and 5 km trail run.
- Super Sprint Triathlon: 400 m swim, 7 km mountain bike, and 2 km trail run.
- Short Track Triathlon: Elite invitation-only race with a 400 m swim, 7.5 km bike, and 3 km run.
- 5K Trail Run: A family-friendly trail running race.
The event serves as a qualifier for the XTERRA World Championship and the XTERRA Youth World Championship. It also hosts the USA Triathlon Youth and Junior Cross National Championship. Outside of the races, the festival grounds at Oak Mountain State Park offer live music, food trucks, beer gardens, and wildlife encounters.
