About the race
The Xmas event in Diamond Harbour takes place on 29 November 2026 and is organised as a retr-O orienteering event. The event centre is at Stoddart Point car park above the ferry terminus in Diamond Harbour. Travel options mentioned include driving through Charteris Bay or taking the ferry from Lyttleton. A range of orienteering courses will be available, with course details to be confirmed.
The terrain includes mature pine forest, park areas, historic buildings, amenity plantings, and areas with intricate vegetation and rock features. The event is described as suitable for families and includes easy courses for newcomers. Pre-entry is preferred. Entries will open about two weeks before the event and pre-entries close the Wednesday before the event.
Limited enter-on-the-day places will be available and will be charged at non-member prices. All entries are paid by credit or debit card at the time of entry via the event entry system. Helpers on the day and members paying with VIP points can use a VIP points payment option.
For families or caregivers accompanying children, only the juniors need to register and pay while accompanying adults go free. An end-of-year prizegiving and social will follow the event, when trophies for the year, most improved orienteers, and volunteer awards will be presented. A sausage sizzle is planned as a fundraiser for juniors travelling to orienteering events. Dogs under effective control are allowed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
