Aotearoa Ultra Marathon - 9 January 2027

The Aotearoa Ultra Marathon is held on Banks Peninsula and in Christchurch, New Zealand. Events start on the peninsula and finish at Halswell Quarry in Christchurch. The course travels along coastal roads, tracks and Summit Road, and crosses Mt Herbert.

Race distances and key facts:

  • 101 km - 4055 m of elevation, Little River to Halswell Quarry, solo or team of 2
  • 53 km - 2278 m of elevation, Pigeon Bay to Halswell Quarry, solo or team of 2
  • 15 km - 484 m of elevation, Gebbies Pass to Halswell Quarry, solo only

The 101 km route begins at Little River Domain and runs up Western Valley Road to Port Levy, then to Pigeon Bay. Runners proceed to the Summit Road via Middle Road, return toward Port Levy, then climb and cross Mt Herbert. From there the route follows Summit Road, Kennedy's Bush Track and Kennedy's Bush Road to Halswell Quarry.

The route passes coastal bays, volcanic landforms on Banks Peninsula, and offers views across Akaroa and Lyttleton Harbours as competitors make their way to the finish in Christchurch. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
