Event overview
The WV Winter Solstice Endurance Run is an overnight club event in Helvetia, West Virginia, held on December 20–21, 2025. It is organized by the West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners with collaboration from HRDO. The event is described as a fun run rather than a race; participants run as many laps as they can during the overnight period. There will be small recognition for the individual who completes the most full laps and for the fastest single lap during the night. Members and non-members may take part.
Course and logistics
The looped course is the Helvetia Historic Trail, a 2.9 mile counter-clockwise loop that starts and ends at the Star Band Hall. The route includes paved and gravel road, a double-track farm road, and an unimproved county road, with a total gain and loss of about 550 ft per lap. The trail is marked with red circular metal blazes and will be supplemented with reflective tags for the event. Race headquarters is at the Helvetia Star Band Hall, which will be available overnight as an aid station and gathering place. Organizers will provide basic hydration, typical ultra aid station food, warming soups and coffee, and participants are encouraged to share potluck items. There is no registration fee, but participants must register on RunSignUp so an e-signed waiver and emergency information are on file. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
