About the race
The World Marathon Challenge® is a coordinated endurance event in which competitors run seven standard marathons (each 42.2 km) on seven continents within 168 hours (7 days). The official 10th edition itinerary for 2027 lists the seven race locations as Ultima Base, Antarctica; Cape Town, South Africa; Perth, Australia; Dubai, Asia; Madrid, Europe; Fortaleza, South America; and Miami, North America. The first marathon begins in Antarctica and the race clock runs for the full 168-hour period.
The event is delivered by Runbuk and includes intercontinental logistics: international charter flights between marathon locations, a specialist jet from Cape Town to Ultima Base, on‑flight meals, and contingency arrangements for weather-related delays in Antarctica. Race services noted in the event information include professionally organised race venues, aid and drink stations at each marathon, on-site medical support, and shower facilities at all locations except Antarctica. Competitor support also covers professional photo and video capture, event merchandise, and finishers’ medals and t-shirts.
Entry places are strictly limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis; strong marathon fitness and experience with back-to-back running are expected. The published entry fee for the 2027 edition is $50,700 USD (the 2028 entry fee is listed as $52,800 USD). The entry fee does not include flights to Cape Town from a participant’s home, accommodation in Cape Town, or the return flight after Miami; participants are responsible for meals off the charter flights.
