About the race
Eden VK is an uphill-only vertical kilometre event held at Eden Forest on Paradyskloof Weg in Stellenbosch. The course gains 1000 m of elevation over about 5 km and follows a route that starts at the Eden Forest gate and tags the Stellenboschberg beacon. The event includes a marked Strava segment and a GPX file that will be supplied by email.
Entries are limited and remain open until race day or until capacity is reached. The event enforces a 2-hour cutoff for the uphill ascent and does not provide aid stations, so athletes must be self-sufficient. Required kit includes at least 1 litre of liquid, a waterproof jacket, and a cellphone. Running poles are not permitted. Participants must be 18 or older and compete at their own risk after completing the event indemnity.
After the uphill effort, participants descend by hiking or running on the same or a related route. Prize-giving and on-site merchandise sales are part of the day, and brief paid massages are available. The organiser notes that parts of the route require boulder hopping and that those with a severe fear of heights should reconsider entry. The event is subject to cancellation for extreme weather or natural disaster and follows the organiser’s terms and entry policies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
