World Giraffe Day 5K Run/Walk
The event takes place on June 20, 2026 at Frank Buck Zoo in Gainesville, Texas. It is organized in partnership with Save Giraffes Now, a Texas based 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on community-led giraffe conservation in Africa. Save Giraffes Now reports more than thirty ongoing giraffe projects and one project was the subject of a National Geographic film released in fall 2022.
Participants may choose among the following options:
- 5K cross country run
- 5K walk through the zoo
- Virtual challenge
Registration opens March 18, 2026 and closes June 19, 2026. Fees listed by the organizer are $45 for the in person 5K run and the in person 5K walk, and $35 for the virtual challenge. Spaces for the virtual challenge are described as limited.
The first 130 in person participants who register online will receive a hand-crafted wooden race medal and a race shirt. Virtual challenge participants will receive a medal. Frank Buck Zoo is described as housing more than 130 animals, including giraffe, and the walk takes place before the zoo opens to the public.
