In September 2026, the Danish capital will host the World Athletics Road Running Championships. This event brings together elite athletes from around the globe to compete for six world titles across three distinct distances. The championship is designed as a mass participation event, with a total capacity for 65,000 runners to participate alongside the professional field.

The courses are integrated into the urban landscape of Copenhagen, passing through historic streets and along the city's waterfronts.
For the mass participation races, there are no qualification requirements, allowing recreational runners to share the same course as the elite competitors.
