Unity Wellness Center World AIDS Day Run/Walk
The 9th Annual Unity Wellness Center World AIDS Day Run/Walk takes place at Town Creek Park in Auburn. This community event is held to commemorate World AIDS Day, providing an opportunity for people to unite in the fight against HIV and support those living with the illness. The event offers multiple participation formats:
- 5K Run/Walk (Timed)
- 1 Mile Walk (Not timed)
- 5K Virtual
- 1 Mile Virtual
The 5K race is a timed event, while the 1 Mile walk serves as a non-competitive option. Participants can also choose a virtual category to complete their distance independently. Age group awards are presented to the top three overall male and female runners, as well as the top finishers in specific age categories ranging from 18 and under to 61 and over.
The event is designed to be accessible for the whole family, and pets are permitted as long as they remain on a leash. Following the activities, the organizers provide refreshments and host a raffle for attendees. Facilities including bathrooms are located near the start and finish areas. Proceeds and activities support the Unity Wellness Center, which provides HIV testing, medical care, and prevention education.
The event proceeds regardless of rain, though it may be canceled in the case of thunderstorms. Off-site packet and shirt pick-up is usually coordinated at local venues in Opelika prior to the race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
