Woody's Tortoise And Hare
Woody's Tortoise And Hare is scheduled for Saturday April 18, 2026, at Fountain Creek Regional Park in Fountain, Colorado. The event is a 5K run that uses a true handicap format: at registration participants provide age, gender, height, and weight, and organizers compute a handicap in seconds that determines each runner's starting time.
The runner with the largest predicted handicap starts first; a countdown clock releases subsequent starters when their handicap time arrives. When the clock reaches zero all runners have begun and the clock then measures elapsed race time. Finish order reflects the handicap adjusted standings, and actual running times are also computed. Trophies are awarded to the first three finishers after handicap adjustment.
The course starts and finishes on short sections of concrete but is mostly on dirt trails and is described as fairly flat with very little elevation gain. The start and finish location is at 2010 Duckwood Rd, Fountain, CO 80817. There is plentiful parking, though parking on park curbs is prohibited and vehicles may be towed.
Registration fees vary by membership status and category. Discounts apply for members and for certain public safety and first responder groups with prior contact to obtain a discount code. Race rules prohibit strollers, headphones or earbuds, and pets. Races may be cancelled for extremely bad weather and there are no refunds for cancellations.
