Wolf Lake 5k
The Wolf Lake 5k is held in the William Powers Conservation Area at Wolf Lake in Chicago. The course begins at the visitors center, heads north through the park to the state line, then turns around and returns to the finish. This year the race takes place entirely within the conservation area.
Event options include a 5K and a short Kids Run for children under 12 that takes place near the finish after the 5K. There is also a family run/walk option; each registered family receives one T-shirt. Each participant receives a commemorative race T-shirt and a goody bag.
Awards are given as part of the normal race prizes. In addition, a First Responders Challenge recognizes the three fastest Police, Fire, and EMT participants with medals and bragging rights. Entry fees vary by date: $30 through May 9, $35 thereafter, and $40 on race day. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Hegewisch Community Center, a 501(c)(3) organization.
