The Wirral Seaside Races Series

The Wirral Seaside Runs is a series of six races held monthly from March to August. These events take place on the last Wednesday of each month. The series has been a fixture on the Merseyside running scene for over 30 years and is organized by Pensby Runners.

The event features a single distance:

  • 5 km

The course is located along the sea embankment in Wirral. The route starts near Leasowe Lighthouse in Moreton and follows a flat path along the sea front, finishing at Harrison Drive near the Derby Pool pub and Wallasey Village. Because the race is a point-to-point route, participants must arrange their own transport from the finish line if they do not intend to walk or run back to the start area.

Registration takes place at Leasowe Lighthouse, where a cafe provides drinks and snacks for purchase with cash. There is ample free parking available at the start. All entries must be completed online prior to the event, and race numbers are collected at the lighthouse on the day. Entries close ten minutes before the scheduled start.

The event is fully licensed by Wirral Borough Council and UK Athletics. The course is certified as accurate. For those participating in multiple events, a league is maintained across the six-race series, with awards presented to competitors who complete at least five of the six races. While the event is open to various experience levels, it is expected that participants aim to finish the three-mile distance within 45 minutes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
