Event Overview
The Wings for Life World Run in Northfield is an organized event where participants run or use wheelchairs to support spinal cord research. This event takes place at Highland Mountain Bike Park. Instead of a fixed finish line, participants compete against a Virtual Catcher Car that tracks their progress through a mobile application.
Race Format
The Virtual Catcher Car starts moving 30 minutes after the official start. It begins at a speed of 14 km/h and gradually increases its pace until every runner and wheelchair user is overtaken. Once the car catches a participant, their race is complete. The total proceeds from entry fees go directly to projects researching a cure for spinal cord injury.
Course Details
The route begins at the Highland Mountain Bike Park overflow parking lot. The course follows a loop that runs out to 820 and Doctors orders. Participants repeat this loop until they reach their personal goal or are overtaken by the virtual vehicle.
Features and Logistics
A refreshment station is available for participants at the local setup. Timing and race numbers are managed through the mobile application. The event format allows participants to cover various distances before being caught by the virtual finish line. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
