Wings for Life World Run Detroit

The Wings for Life World Run in Detroit is a global running event designed for both runners and wheelchair participants. The race features a unique format without a set finish line. Instead, participants use a mobile application to track their progress against a Virtual Catcher Car. This digital vehicle begins its pursuit 30 minutes after the start at a speed of 14 km/h, gradually increasing its pace until all participants have been overtaken.

The event starts at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. The course takes participants westbound along the Detroit Riverfront. Runners and wheelchair users follow the riverfront path toward a marked turnaround point. The route allows participants to double back toward the starting area while remaining active until they are caught by the Virtual Catcher Car.

The Detroit App Run Event allows local participants to run together in a group setting. Registration fees and donations from the event are directed toward spinal cord research projects. Participants are required to download the official mobile app to participate, which manages the timing, race number, and the virtual finish line.
