Wings for Life World Run - St. Louis

The Wings for Life World Run in St. Louis is a global event where participants run to support spinal cord research. This unique race format does not feature a traditional finish line. Instead, runners and wheelchair participants use a mobile application to navigate the course while being pursued by a Virtual Catcher Car.

The event takes place in Forest Park, providing a central location for participants to meet and run together. The race begins globally at the same time, with the Virtual Catcher Car starting its pursuit 30 minutes after the initial signal. The car begins at a speed of 14 km/h and gradually increases its pace until every runner has been overtaken. The race concludes for each individual once the app indicates they have been caught.

Participants can choose their own pace and distance goals. Potential distances based on the car's progression include:

  • 5 km
  • 10 km
  • 15 km
  • 20 km
  • 40 km

The local set up includes a refreshment station for participants. All entry fees and donations collected from the event are used directly for spinal cord research projects. The event is open to both runners and wheelchair users who must use the dedicated mobile app to track their progress and receive timing results.
