Wings for Life World Run Edmonton
The Wings for Life World Run is a global sporting event open to both runners and wheelchair participants. The Ottawa installment takes place on May 10, 2026, starting at the Dow’s Lake Pavilion. This race features a unique format where there is no traditional finish line. Instead, participants must stay ahead of a Virtual Catcher Car managed through a mobile application.
The Virtual Catcher Car begins its pursuit 30 minutes after the start of the race. It maintains an initial speed of 14 km/h and steadily increases its pace over time. A participant's race ends once the virtual car catches them.
The course follows the scenic Western Pathway along the Rideau Canal. Notable features of the route include:
- A mostly flat, paved pathway.
- Scenic views of the water and surrounding parkland.
- A mix of urban settings and green spaces.
The event supports a charitable cause, with 100% of entry fees and donations going directly to spinal cord research projects. A refreshment station and local setup are available on-site. Participants are required to use the official event app for timing and tracking during the run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
