Henderson App Run Event
The Wings for Life World Run in Henderson is a global event where participants run to support spinal cord research. This specific event takes place at Sunset Park in Las Vegas. The race uses a mobile application to track progress and manage the competition format. It is an inclusive event open to both runners and wheelchair participants.
The course is located at 2601 E Sunset Rd and follows a mile-long trail within the park. Participants complete laps around this trail during the event. To support the athletes, water stations are positioned every 0.25 miles along the route. Local refreshment stations are also provided as part of the event setup.
The competition features a unique format without a fixed finish line. Instead of running toward a finish, participants are pursued by a Virtual Catcher Car through the mobile app. The race begins with the virtual car starting its pursuit 30 minutes after the initial start. The car begins at a speed of 14 km/h and gradually increases its pace. An individual's race concludes once the app indicates they have been overtaken by the Virtual Catcher Car.
Participants are required to download the official mobile app to handle timing and race numbering.
