Wings for Life World Run - Halifax
The Wings for Life World Run in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a global charity event for runners and wheelchair participants. This event uses a unique format where there is no traditional finish line. Instead, participants compete against a Virtual Catcher Car. All entry fees and donations go directly toward spinal cord research projects.
The App Run takes place along the Halifax Waterfront, with the main location situated at the Port of Halifax. Participants use a mobile application to track their race and interact with the virtual pursuit vehicle.
Race Format
The event follows a specific pursuit timeline:
- The Virtual Catcher Car starts 30 minutes after the initial race start.
- It begins at a speed of 14 km/h.
- The car steadily increases its speed until the final athlete has been caught.
When the Virtual Catcher Car passes a participant within the app, their race concludes. The event site includes a refreshment station and a local setup for timing and race numbers. The course and event format are fully accessible for wheelchair participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
