Event Overview
The Wings for Life World Run is a global charity event where participants run to support spinal cord research. The Dublin edition takes place at the Clontarf Promenade, offering a communal environment where runners and wheelchair participants use a mobile application to track their progress. Total entry fees and donations are contributed directly to spinal cord research projects.
Course and Format
The event features a unique format without a fixed finish line. Instead, participants race against a Virtual Catcher Car. The race begins with athletes moving along the course, and 30 minutes later, the virtual vehicle starts at a speed of 14 km/h. The car gradually increases its pace until it overtakes every participant. Once a runner is caught by the virtual car, their individual race concludes.
The course at Clontarf Promenade is a flat, scenic coastal route following the Dublin Bay waterfront. The path is wide and well-maintained, providing a safe space for both runners and spectators.
Participation Details
The event is open to both runners and wheelchair participants. To take part, athletes must download the specialized mobile application, which manages the race timing and the interaction with the Virtual Catcher Car. The location provides a local refreshment station and facilities for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
