Wings for Life World Run Calgary
The Wings for Life World Run in Calgary is part of a global running event where participants compete simultaneously across the world. This event uses a unique format without a traditional static finish line. Instead, athletes run as far as they can before being overtaken by a Virtual Catcher Car managed through a mobile application. This event is fully accessible to wheelchair participants.
The course is located in the East Village area of Calgary, starting and ending near the Simmons Building at 618 Confluence Way SE. The route follows the Riverwalk pathway along the Bow River. This paved trail is lined with trees and greenery, offering views of the river and the contrasting East Village skyline, which features a mix of historic buildings and modern office towers.
The race mechanics involve the Virtual Catcher Car beginning its pursuit 30 minutes after the start at an initial speed of 14 km/h. The car steadily increases its pace until every participant has been caught. All entry fees and donations are directed toward spinal cord research projects. A local setup including a refreshment station is provided for participants during the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
