Wings for Life World Run - Burlington
The Wings for Life World Run in Burlington, Vermont, is part of a global event where participants run to support spinal cord research. This local App Run event takes place at The Champlain College Leahy Center and utilizes a unique race format without a traditional stationary finish line. Instead, participants compete against a Virtual Catcher Car through a mobile application.
The course is located along a flat bike path bordering Lake Champlain. The route is designed to be fast and follows a distance of either:
- 5 km
- 5 miles
The event is inclusive of both runners and wheelchair participants. The race begins for everyone simultaneously, and thirty minutes later, a Virtual Catcher Car starts at a speed of 14 km/h. This virtual vehicle steadily increases its pace until it passes the participants, at which point their individual race concludes.
Participants must download the specific event app to track their progress and be part of the global results. One hundred percent of the entry fees and donations are contributed directly to projects focused on finding a cure for spinal cord injury.
