WILD Wahatoya Runs
WILD Wahatoya Runs is a trail running event on September 26, 2026, centered in La Veta and Cuchara, Colorado. Courses traverse public land in the San Isabel National Forest and pass views of the East and West Spanish Peaks. The event is timed to pair with local Oktoberfest celebrations in La Veta and Cuchara and finishes at the Cuchara Yacht Club, where finish line refreshments and live music are available.
Three distances are offered:
- 50K 32.4 miles, 6,709 ft elevation gain, max elevation 11,147 ft
- Heavy Half Marathon 14.6 miles, 3,199 ft elevation gain, max elevation 10,634 ft
- 8ish Mile 7.6 miles, 1,626 ft elevation gain, max elevation 9,434 ft
Course highlights include dirt and low-traffic country roads, maintained singletrack such as the Dike Trail, sections affected by the 2018 Spring Creek Fire, multiple water crossings on the 50K, and forested climbs with lodgepole pine and aspen. Aid stations and marked junctions appear at several points; one 50K water stop is an out-and-back that serves as a mandatory safety check. The 50K starts in La Veta and the shorter distances start near the Cuchara Yacht Club. A shuttle runs from finish parking to the 50K start.
Race rules note leave no trace, required mandatory gear per distance, no dogs, no pacers, crew aid only at main aid stations, and a recommendation to carry course GPX and remain alert for wildlife. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
