WILD Wahatoya Runs - Trail Trash Adventures

WILD Wahatoya Runs takes place in La Veta and Cuchara, Colorado on September 26, 2026, and links town routes with trails on San Isabel National Forest land. The event references the Spanish Peaks and the local name Wahatoya, meaning “Breasts of the Earth,” and is paired with La Veta and Cuchara October Fest activities.

There are three race distances:

• 50K: 32.4 miles, 6,709 ft elevation gain, max 11,147 ft.
• Heavy Half Marathon: 14.6 miles, 3,199 ft elevation gain, max 10,634 ft.
• 8ish Mile: 7.6 miles, 1,626 ft elevation gain, max 9,434 ft.

Course notes: the 50K starts in La Veta at La Veta High School and runs through town, low trafficked country roads, old floodplain tracks with multiple water crossings, and maintained forest trails before joining local trails into Cuchara. The Heavy Half and 8ish Mile begin at the Cuchara Yacht Club and use local dirt roads, the Dike Trail, Spring Creek and Baker Creek sections, and shared finish access at the Dike Trail south trailhead. Multiple aid stations are positioned along each course, including a required out and back water stop on the 50K. The finish is at the Cuchara Yacht Club with food, live music, and locally provided beer.
