Whitehaven Harbour 5K
The Whitehaven Harbour 5K is a measured 5 kilometre out and back road race along the harbour front. The route runs from the harbour side toward the Beacon and Haig Pit before returning the same way. The course includes one climb through the candlestick area with low walls and a short section of gravel; the remainder of the route is flat. This course is officially measured and certified by the Association of UK Course Measurers.
Registration takes place at the Harbour Youth Project, located under the multi storey car park and described as about five minutes from the start. Race numbers are issued at registration. Entries on the day are allowed subject to a maximum field of 200 runners; on the night entries incur the normal entry fee plus an additional three pounds. The advertised entry fee is ten pounds per participant plus a booking fee.
Facilities listed for the event include parking in Whitehaven and toilets at the registration area. A safety briefing will be held prior to the race and first aid provision will be available. Prize giving is held at the registration venue and light refreshments will be provided. Medals are awarded to all finishers. Prizes are given for first, second and third male and female overall, veteran age groups in five year categories from age 35, and male and female juniors aged 11 to 17.
