Event Overview
The Whitefish Trail Blazer is a two-day trail running event in Whitefish, Montana, held in early October 2026. It is a benefit for Whitefish Legacy Partners and the Whitefish Trail.
Distances and Schedule
The event is split over two days:
- Saturday: Features the Blazer 50k ultramarathon.
- Sunday: Features the Blazer Half Marathon, Blazer 10k+, Blazer 5k+, and Blazer Family Fun Run.
Virtual options are also available for all distances.
Course Details
The Blazer 50k starts and finishes at the Whitefish Mountain Resort Events Center. The course is approximately 31 miles (50k) of single and double-track trail with over 6,300 feet of elevation gain, including an ascent to the summit of Big Mountain. The route offers views of Glacier National Park and Flathead Lake. There are 4 fully-stocked aid stations and 3 water-only stations. The course has a 10-hour cutoff time.
Sunday's shorter events start and end at the Whitefish Legacy Center and explore the Beaver Lakes area of the Whitefish Trail. The Half Marathon has about 2,000 feet of elevation gain, the 10k+ about 750 feet, and the 5k+ about 500 feet.
Participant Information
All participants receive a race t-shirt and sports nutrition products. Finishers of the 50k also receive a finisher's medallion. Awards are given to the top five overall male and female finishers in the 50k. A post-race celebration includes a catered meal and beverages (beer and non-alcoholic options).
Registration and Rules
Registration for the 50k closes the Friday before the race. Registration for the Sunday events closes the Saturday before the race. There is no day-of registration. Pets are not allowed on the racecourse. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
