WhistleStop Marathon & Half-Marathon: Ashland, Wisconsin
The WhistleStop event is an annual October road and trail running weekend held in and around Ashland, Wisconsin. Established in 1998, the event offers multiple point to point races on a crushed limestone rail-trail that follows the historic Tri-County Corridor through the Chequamegon National Forest. The route passes lakes, wetlands, and historic trestles and finishes in downtown Ashland near the Lake Superior lakewalk.
The full marathon is USATF certified and serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier. The course is described as having a generally gradual downhill grade and cool fall conditions that many runners use when pursuing a qualifying time. Race weekend emphasizes community support, volunteer aid stations, and visible fall foliage.
