Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Trail Half Marathon & 5 Mile
The Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Trail event takes place in January at Northeast Park in Gibsonville, North Carolina, on January 16, 2027. It is a winter trail race known for highly variable conditions; past editions have ranged from warm and dry to cold with slippery trails and river crossings.
Main distance options:
- Half Marathon - 13.1 miles
- 5 Mile - 5 miles
The half marathon route includes two crossings of the Reedy Fork River. Both distances are offered with run and ruck divisions. Ruck participants hike with a weighted rucksack or weight plate carrier and are weighed before the race; participants under 150 lb carry 20 lb and those over 150 lb carry 30 lb. There are also virtual race options and economy packages that omit swag items such as the finisher medal, custom bib, or race hoodie.
The event provides chip timing, live results, and on-course support. Up to 50 half marathon entrants may start early to meet cutoffs; organizers note that course markings remain but some aid stations may be unmanned for early starters, who are asked to avoid headphones and yield to faster runners. Post-race items listed for participants include a race hoodie, a finisher medal that is part of the North Carolina Trail Mega Medal Series, a WTF bumper sticker, food, and beer.
