Event Format

The We've Gotcha BACKyard Ultra is an endurance event where participants run a fixed-distance loop every hour. The format has several timed race options that start at different times over the weekend.

Event Distances

The event consists of these race challenges:

  • 24 loop challenge: A 24-hour endurance event where the goal is to complete a 6.7 km loop every hour for 24 hours, aiming for a total of approximately 160 km.
  • 15 loop challenge: A 15-hour endurance challenge.
  • 10 loop challenge: A 10-hour endurance challenge.
  • 2k kids dash: A 2 km fun run for children.

Rules and Schedule

The core rule for the backyard ultra format is that runners must start each new loop exactly on the hour. A runner is out of the race if they do not finish a loop within the hour, or if they are not in the starting corral to begin the next loop at the scheduled time. Whistle signals are given at 3, 2, and 1 minute before each loop starts.

The event precinct opens for setup on Saturday. There is a race briefing 20 minutes before each event start. The 24-hour race starts first, followed by the 15-hour and 10-hour challenges the next morning. The kids' 2k dash also takes place on Sunday morning.

Location and Amenities

The event is held at Rocks Riverside Park on Seventeen Mile Rocks Road in Seventeen Mile Rocks, Queensland, Australia. The park offers space for families.

Support for runners includes hydration provided by Fixx Nutrition. A coffee van will be available throughout the day, and a pizza van will be present from lunchtime on Sunday. There will be giveaways after the final loop of the day.

Charity and Registration

The event supports the mental health charity Beyond Blue, with all profits from the kids' dash going to the organization. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
