Event Overview
Westport Sea 2 Summit is an adventure race based in Westport, County Mayo. The event features two distinct courses that combine road running, cycling, and mountain hiking. Participants travel through local landmarks including Croagh Patrick, Clew Bay, the Sheaffry Mountains, and the Greenway.
The race starts at the Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotel Resort. The route utilizes the Greenway for running sections and Roman Island as a primary transition point. On the mountain sections, participants are required to stay on defined paths to assist with habitat restoration and must adhere to "Leave no Trace" principles.
Course Options
Participants can choose between two main race formats, each offering categories for advanced, intermediate, and beginner levels:
- S2S Spirit (31 km): Includes a 4 km run, 8 km cycle, 4 km mountain run to the ridge of Croagh Patrick, 11 km cycle, and a final 4 km run.
- S2S Supreme (56 km): Includes a 4 km run, 8 km cycle, 7 km mountain run to the summit of Croagh Patrick, 35 km hilly cycle including the Maum climb, and a final 4 km run.
The Supreme course features significant elevation, including the Maum climb with gradients reaching 25 percent. The Spirit course follows a similar route but excludes the upper cone of Croagh Patrick, turning back at the ridge. Both races finish at the Fairgreen overlooking the Mall River.
