Westport Sea 2 Summit : event overview

Westport Sea 2 Summit is a multisport adventure race based in Westport, Mayo, that uses local landscapes including Croagh Patrick, Clew Bay, the Sheaffry Mountains and the new Greenway. The event is organised by the Westport Plaza & Castlecourt Hotel Resort and offers two distinct race formats: S2S Spirit and S2S Supreme. Each race includes running, cycling and a mountain hike, and entries are offered in three categories: Advanced, Intermediate and Beginner.

The S2S Spirit format totals 31 km and the S2S Supreme totals 56 km. Distances for each format are:

• S2S Spirit: 4k run; 8k cycle; 4k mountain run; 11k cycle; 4k run.
• S2S Supreme: 4k run; 8k cycle; 7k mountain run; 35k cycle (including hilly sections); 4k run.

Course notes describe town sections, transition points and specific stages: initial run along the Greenway to Westport Quay, coastal cycle to Murrisk, an ascent and descent on Croagh Patrick (using the most used side), further cycling including the Maum climb, and a final run to the Fairgreen overlooking the Mall River.

Safety and environment guidelines are stated: competitors must obey marshals and Garda instructions, stay on defined mountain paths, avoid discarding litter, respect mountain drinking water, and note that dogs are not allowed on Croagh Patrick.
