MTC Abhartach - Mount to Coast
The MTC Abhartach is a single day ultra running event of approximately 47 miles (total distance listed as 46.7 miles). It is Day 10 of the fourteen day MTC MizMal® end to end series and follows most of the MizMal route provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling. The route begins at Westport Woods Hotel & Spa and finishes at Murphys Hotel, Tobercurry.
Entry is limited to 20 race-only competitors with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal entrants, giving a maximum of 40 runners. The organisers operate preset cut off points based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; competitors who fall below this minimum may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files are sent to entrants in advance and real time tracking is provided during the race via a device supplied by the organisers that includes an SOS function.
Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and a basic first aid kit. The event is cup free so competitors must bring their own reusable cup. Check-point food examples include malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. Entry fees are stated as £90, with an optional race package at £155 that includes an embroidered race shirt and hi viz jacket if selected at least four weeks before the event. All payments and deposits are non refundable; a personal cancellation insurance option is available at booking and a defer option can be used up to four weeks before the event for a fee of £15.
