MTC Abhartach - Event
The MTC Abhartach is a single-day ultra running event scheduled for 17 May 2026. It is Day 10 of the MTC MizMal® fourteen-day series and part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge. Entry is limited to 20 general competitors plus an allowance of 20 MizMal® competitors (maximum 40). Entry fees are shown as £90 for the standard entry or £155 for the Race Package, which includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket when ordered at least four weeks before the event. All entry fees are non-refundable. All entrants must meet the organiser’s minimum age requirement and agree to the event terms and rules. Finishers receive an Abhartach medal; male and female champions also receive bespoke trophies.
Route, logistics and rules
The route starts at Westport Woods Hotel & Spa and finishes at Murphys Hotel, Tobercurry. The total distance is listed as 46.7 miles with 1,941 ft of ascent and 1,754 ft of descent. Checkpoints are provided at approximately 8.8 miles, 17.8 miles, 27.5 miles and 36.1 miles. The race enforces preset cut-off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants by email four weeks before the event. Competitors are required to carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food, plus a waterproof map case. The organiser issues tracking devices with SOS capability and provides real-time tracking during the race. The event is cup-free; competitors should bring a reusable cup.
