MTC Abhartach

The event
The MTC Abhartach is a single-day ultra run scheduled for 17 May 2026. The route is listed as 46.7 miles and forms Day 10 of the MTC MizMal® fourteen-day end-to-end of Ireland. The course starts at Westport Woods Hotel & Spa and finishes at Murphys Hotel in Tobercurry. Elevation figures are given as 1,941 ft ascent and 1,754 ft descent. All finishers receive an Abhartach medal; male and female champions receive bespoke trophies. This is the first edition. Competitor numbers are limited to 20 race-only entries plus 20 MizMal® entrants for a maximum of 40.
Logistics, kit and rules
Entry fees are shown as £90 for the race and £155 for a race package that includes a shirt and lightweight hi-viz jacket. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants by email about four weeks before the event. The race is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup. URL will issue a tracking device with an SOS button and realtime tracking during the race. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. The organisers enforce preset cut-offs based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn. All entrants must be at least 20 years old.
