MTC Abhartach

The MTC Abhartach is a 47-mile (approx. 75.6 km) ultramarathon race. It takes place on a single day and is part of the larger Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series. The event also serves as Day 10 of the 14-day MTC MizMal® challenge.

The point-to-point route starts at the Westport Woods Hotel & Spa and finishes at Murphys Hotel in Tobercurry. Most of the course follows the existing MizMal® route.

A maximum of 40 participants are allowed, with 20 places for MTC Abhartach runners and an additional 20 for runners participating in the full MTC MizMal® challenge. The event enforces a strict minimum pace requirement of 4 mph (approx. 6.4 km/h); runners falling below this pace may be withdrawn.

All finishers receive a bespoke Abhartach medal. An optional entry package includes an official race t-shirt and a hi-viz jacket. The event is cup-free, so runners must bring their own reusable cup. Participants are provided with a GPS tracking device that includes an SOS button for emergencies.

Checkpoints along the route offer food such as malt loaf, cake, sandwiches, sweets, and drinks. The mandatory kit list includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and a basic first-aid kit.
