MTC Abhartach
The MTC Abhartach is a long-distance running event held in Ireland. It covers a total distance of 46.7 miles (approximately 75 km) with an ascent of 1,941 feet and a descent of 1,754 feet. This event serves as a single-day race and also functions as Day 10 of the MTC MizMal, a fourteen-day end-to-end challenge of Ireland.
The route begins at the Westport Woods Hotel & Spa and follows the MizMal course, concluding at Murphys Hotel in Tobercurry. Participants pass through four designated checkpoints located at Derrycoosh, Ross Post Office, Noorey Park, and Carrowliambeg. This is a point-to-point race where the course is generally not signed; athletes are responsible for following the provided mapping and GPX files.
Field size is restricted to a maximum of 40 participants, including 20 individual race entries and 20 multi-day challenge competitors. To remain in the event, runners must maintain a minimum average speed of 4 mph. This is a cup-free event, meaning participants must carry their own reusable drinking vessels.
