Event overview

The Mount to Coast Abhartach (MTC Abhartach) is a one-day ultra running event on 16 May 2027. The route covers 46.7 miles and forms Day 10 of the fourteen-day MTC MizMal® series. The course starts at Westport Woods Hotel & Spa and finishes at Murphys Hotel, Tobercurry. Total ascent is 1,941 ft and total descent is 1,754 ft. Competitor numbers are limited to 20 race-only places with an additional 20 places for MizMal® entrants, giving a maximum of 40 runners.

Checkpoints, cut-offs and prizes

The route includes four intermediate checkpoints at roughly 8.8, 17.8, 27.5 and 36.1 miles. The event enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; preset cut-off times apply at checkpoints and competitors who fall below the minimum may be withdrawn. All finishers receive an Abhartach medal. Male and female champions receive bespoke trophies.

Entry, navigation and mandatory kit

Standard entry fee is £90.00; a race package option at £155.00 includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket when ordered at least four weeks before the event. All fees are non-refundable. Race mapping and GPX files are provided to entrants only, emailed four weeks before the event. Organisers supply a tracking device with an SOS function and real-time tracking is available during the race. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and an emergency food pack.
