The Western Way - Maam to Leenane is an Irish Mountain Running Association event in County Galway on Saturday 15th November 2025. The course follows the Western Way route and is a 30.00 km race with a short course of 0.00 km and total climb of 540 m. The event is graded Difficulty 9 (3,3,3) - Difficult Terrain, >500 m ascent, >10 km. The route is fully marked and GPS is allowed.
All runners meet in Leenane to be transported to the start; the finish is in Leenane at Leenaun Parking. Entry details are not yet published; entries for league events usually open a couple of weeks before the event.
Mandatory kit and race instructions
This event requires Level B standard kit to be brought by all runners: waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with the emergency number stored, and a foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent. The actual kit to be carried during the race will be finalised on the day and advised at registration. Runners should also have the means to carry the kit if required.
