Western Way - Maam to Leenane

The event is a mountain running race in County Galway on Saturday 15 November 2025. The route follows the Western Way from Maum to Leenaun and finishes in Leenane. The course distance is 30.00 km with 710 m of climb. The event is classed as difficulty 9 (3,3,3) for difficult terrain, over 500 m ascent and over 10 km. The route is fully marked and GPS use is allowed.

Logistics and requirements

The event is sold out and the entry limit is 40. Entry cost was €10 and entry closed on Wednesday 5 November 2025. All runners must carry Level B standard mandatory kit: a waterproof jacket; hat or buff; gloves; whistle; a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored; and a foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent. The exact kit to be carried on the day will be confirmed at registration and runners must have the means to carry the kit. Random checks may be carried out and lack of required items can lead to denied entry or disqualification. All runners meet in Leenane to be transported to the start line and the finish is in Leenane. Volunteers are used for event support; two non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year are required to qualify for an end-of-year prize.
