Waves & Whales Trail Run and Hike - May 8, 2027
ACORN Partners in Education will host the annual Waves & Whales Trail Run and Hike on the Point Arena-Stornetta Lands, with Pacific Community Charter School as co-host. The event supports ACORN’s educational programs and fundraising for its Students Protecting the Coast initiative.
The event combines a trail run and a hike. Hikers and dogs are welcome; dogs must be on leash. Participants receive a cotton t-shirt featuring original artwork by a local artist and snacks. Day of registration is available on site. The event includes age categories and first place awards made by Point Arena Tileworks, followed by an awards ceremony. Timing from the 2026 event noted that official timing ended before all hikers finished.
The organizer published a tiered fee schedule for 2027 with separate rates for adults and youth, and offers family pricing discounts. Proceeds support Students Protecting the Coast, a hands on environmental education program that began in the 2012-13 school year and focuses on conservation and community outreach. ACORN frames the event as a way to engage the community with the coastal landscape and to further stewardship and place based learning for local youth.
