Waukee Freedom 5K
The Waukee Freedom 5K is a community running event held on the 4th of July in Waukee, Iowa. This marks the 43rd year of the event, which serves as a fundraiser for local Scouts belonging to Troop 178. The funds raised through the races support scouting programs focused on personal growth, learning, and community service projects within the Waukee area.
The event features two distinct distances:
- 5 km run
- 1 mile kids run
Both race distances share a common start and finish location at the Lutheran Church of Hope Waukee, situated at 305 NE Dartmoor Dr. Registration for the event occurs online several months in advance. Participants who complete their registration by June 22nd are eligible to receive a commemorative t-shirt.
The organization behind the event, Troop 178, currently consists of more than 30 active members. The proceeds from the registration fees assist these individuals in reaching their organizational goals and continuing their service to the local and surrounding communities.
