Waterford Viking Marathon 2026
The Waterford Viking Marathon is a multi-event running festival across Waterford City and county held on 20 and 21 June 2026. The programme includes marathon, relay, half marathon, 10k, a disability friendly run, a virtual marathon and a children’s run. Routes pass notable local landmarks including the River Suir and Mount Congreve Gardens, and include both urban and countryside sections.
Relay teams comprise two runners sharing the full marathon distance, with one runner covering 12 miles and the other covering 14 miles. A designated Viking Bus transports the second runner to the takeover point at the Ballyduff underpass; the event plans for the first runner to rejoin their teammate near the entrance to the Glen on Bridge Street to finish together. Relay finishers receive a relay medal and a full marathon t-shirt.
Practical information includes a registration closing date of 15 June and national postage for race bibs available until 24 May; entries after that date must collect race numbers at Race HQ, Garter Lane, 22A O’Connell Street, Waterford City. Race HQ and t-shirt collection are scheduled across the event weekend with specific collection times published for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The disability friendly run is an inclusive 8.5k event on Grattan Quay. Children’s non-competitive races include 200 m, 400 m, 800 m and a 4x100 m family relay; finishers receive medals and may purchase event t-shirts.
