Event Overview
The Warrington Sprint Tri/Du/Aqua is a multisport event offering a triathlon, duathlon, aquavelo, and relay formats. All events start and finish at the Mary Barness Community Pool in Warrington, Pennsylvania.
Events and Distances
The event features five different race formats:
- Triathlon: 300 meter pool swim, 10 mile bike, 5k run
- Duathlon: 2 mile run, 10 mile bike, 5k run
- Triathlon Relay: Team version of the triathlon
- Aquavelo: 300 meter pool swim, 10 mile bike
- Duathlon Relay: Team version of the duathlon
Event Details
Registration is digital only, with no paper applications or cash accepted. Packet pickup is available on specific days prior to the event at the Warrington Township Building. On race day, check-in and registration are available for a limited time before the start. A pre-race briefing is held near the transition area.
The transition area opens early on race day. Athletes are body-marked before entering. All participants must follow USA Triathlon (USAT) rules, including mandatory helmet use and a no-drafting rule on the bike. Headphones are prohibited.
The swim takes place in a non-heated outdoor pool with six lanes. Swimmers are started in a time-trial format based on estimated finish times, with two swimmers per lane. Wetsuit use is permitted based on water temperature, with eligibility for awards affected above 78 degrees. The duathlon starts with a mass start.
The bike course is 10 miles on roads that are mostly not closed to traffic, with some sections potentially closed. The route includes a notable uphill section and three small speed humps. The run course for the triathlon and duathlon is a 5k out-and-back route, described as having a slight uphill section first, then a slight downhill, followed by a mostly flat section including the turnaround where a water stop is located.
Parking is not permitted at the pool. Designated parking areas include the Warrington Fire Company and a nearby strip mall, both approximately a half-mile from the start. Refreshments including bananas, granola bars, soft pretzels, and water are provided after the race.
All finishers receive a certificate. Participants registered by a specific date are guaranteed a shirt in their requested size. Awards are given for overall and age group placements in the triathlon and duathlon events. The event is part of the DQ Events Race Series, where participants can earn points for the Grand Prix and Club Challenge.
