About the race
Waitārere Forest Festival is a community running and walking event through Waitārere Forest, finishing in the seaside town event village. Routes follow flat, well-graded trails that wind through pine forest and provide a scenic, largely even surface suitable for runners, walkers, families and pram-pushers.
Distance options include:
- 21 km half marathon
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 2 km fun run for kids
Entry includes a medal and a finishers’ t-shirt for all participants, a race number, timing chip, secure bag check at the event village, and medical support. Aid stations are provided on some courses. Awards and spot prizes are drawn at a prize-giving held at the event village; all competitors are eligible for spot prizes.
The event village is located by the sea in Waitārere and features food trucks, family games and live music. The festival also offers a team entry option called the Dark Horse Crew Challenge that provides a 20% discount on entries and coffee vouchers for teams.
