About the race
The Vuurtoren Trail & Walk on Ameland is organized from the village of Hollum, with start and finish at Zwanenplein in the centre of the village. This edition is presented by Cairn Trails & Adventures as a multi‑distance trail festival that includes trail runs, canitrails, walk routes and a Kids Trail beneath the lighthouse. All routes are professionally waymarked and mostly offroad, with varied terrain over single tracks, soft sand, dunes, beach and forest paths. Most distances form one unique loop.
The Ultra 60 km route is provided as a GPX file; other routes are not published as GPX. The approach from Hollum to the run route and back to the finish uses exactly 1 kilometre of asphalt. The event includes specific provisions: aid stations supply water, sports drink and snacks but no disposable plastic or paper cups; an ECO cup is available. Timekeeping uses an Ipico timing chip that participants must return after the finish or a fee will be charged.
The festival takes place in Natura 2000 protected areas; participants are asked to follow route markings, avoid littering and respect habitat rules. Children’s distances under the lighthouse are about 600 m for up to 7 years and about 1,200 m for 8 to 12 years. Canitrail entries must bring the dog passport and respect minimum ages per distance.
