Vulcan's Fury Trail Race
Vulcan's Fury Trail Race is a rugged trail event held at Pawtuckaway State Park pavilion in Nottingham, New Hampshire. The course moves through boulder fields, dense forest, single-track switchbacks, stream crossings, bridges, and a rocky slope called the Devil's Staircase. The lava that formed the park has long cooled but the terrain requires careful negotiation on hiking trails and technical sections.
Two distances are offered:
- Half marathon
- Five mile course
On the long course, aid stations are located approximately at:
- Round Pond, mile 4.3
- Corner of Mountain Road and South Ridge Connector, mile 7.4
- Mountain Trail, Woronoco split, mile 10.4
The half marathon includes time cutoffs at aid stations; participants who do not meet the published cutoffs are transported back to the start/finish. GPX files are available for both the half marathon and the five mile course. There is no day of registration and no early bib pickup; bib pickup occurs the morning of the event. New for 2026 the event offers $7,500 in prize money.
Location details note that some GPS systems direct to an alternate street number; the pavilion coordinates are 43°05'15.9"N 71°09'36.1"W. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
