The Virginia Credit Union River City Half & River City 5k takes place in Richmond, VA on March 7, 2026. The event is organized by Sports Backers and offers in-person and virtual options. Distances available:

  • Half marathon
  • 5k

Registration prices listed are $85 for the half and $40 for the 5k; prices increase after December 4, 2025. Minimum ages are 12 for the half and 6 for the 5k. Registration-related policies include non-refundable entry fees, a deferral option to the 2027 event available until February 20 (fee: $20 for the half, $10 for the 5k), and a race-switch policy with a $10 transfer fee. Virtual-to-in-person switches are allowed at no cost.

Course, included items, and rules

Both courses start and finish on the University of Richmond campus and include river views along the James River and routes through established neighborhoods and parks. The half marathon route crosses the Huguenot Bridge, passes Riverside Meadows and Pony Pasture, includes a climb in Westover Hills, crosses the Nickel Bridge, and runs past the Carillon and Windsor Farms before returning to campus. The 5k runs through campus and along River Road with an out-and-back segment on the Huguenot Bridge and finishes near Westhampton Lake.

Participants receive a long sleeve technical shirt, finisher medal, bib with chip timing, and access to the post-race festival with two drink tickets. Half participants also receive a branded canvas tote. Course limits and cutoffs are in place; courses are subject to change. The event follows USATF and RRCA rules; skating devices, bicycles, handcycles, animals, and strollers are not allowed on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
