Viking Run
The Viking Run takes place on Saturday May 2, 2026 at the Pioneer Log Cabin Picnic Area in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The event is presented by the Scandinavian School and Cultural Center and combines timed runs with an outdoor fair.
Event distances and youth dashes include:
- 5K for adults and youth 15 and older
- 2K for adults and youth 15 and older
- 5K for seniors 65 and older
- 2K for seniors 65 and older
- 5K for youth 11 to 14 years
- 2K for youth 11 to 14 years
- 5K for youth 6 to 10 years
- 2K for youth 6 to 10 years
- 200 yard kids dash for ages 4 to 7
- 80 yard kids dash for ages 2 to 3
The day includes a community fair with booths, food, live entertainment, activities for children, raffle prizes, and a picnic area. The run program features professional race timing, awards for fastest finishers in the 5K and prizes for other age groups in both 2K and 5K, goodie bags for adults and youth, and t shirts for the youngest participants. There are awards for best individual and team costumes.
Teams are eligible for a special 5K team prize based on average speed with teams of three to ten members. The event uses peer to peer fundraising, and fifty percent of proceeds will support Children of Shelters while funds also support SSCC programs.
Parking is available along Blue Heron Lake Drive or Martin Luther King Jr Drive; cars are not allowed on John F. Kennedy Drive. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
