Victory Lane Backyard 12
The event is a backyard ultra scheduled for August 29, 2026, at Lake Ahquabi near Bussey, Iowa. It uses a repeating lap format centered at a barn and the nearby beach shelter house.
Participants run a single lap of 4.167 mile each hour. Completing twelve laps reaches 50 miles and the event has a race cap of 12 hours. Runners must return to the starting corral at the top of each hour to begin the next lap or they are disqualified; organizers will provide advance warnings before the hour.
The course starts and ends at the barn and follows mostly grass with some gravel. Runners will encounter roots, rocks, and uneven surfaces. Water, Tailwind, and snacks will be available at the starting corral and at a mid-loop aid station. Several restrooms are located along the route and additional restrooms are at the beach shelter house.
Race rules limit on-course assistance: spectators, crew, and eliminated runners are not allowed on the course; no pacers or personal aids such as trekking poles are permitted while running. Upon completing a lap, participants may receive aid from their crew in the designated crew area near the beach shelter.
Crew facilities are in and around the beach shelter house. Crews may bring tents or canopies and must park in adjacent lots rather than on the lawn. Limited access to electricity is expected. Crew areas must be cleaned up after the event, quiet music is requested, and pets should be left at home.
Early packet pick up is available the day before the race and a mandatory pre-race meeting is scheduled on race morning. Lodging options include hotels in Indianola and reservable campsites through the Iowa DNR. Registration uses three pricing tiers with increases on April 1 and September 1; a t-shirt add-on is available for $25 before the September price increase. No refunds or transfers are permitted. The winner receives a medal and a prize package. Updates and photos will be posted to the event Facebook page. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
