VICTORY LANE BACKYARD 12 : Bussey, IA
The event is a backyard ultra held at 2308 Victory Lane in Bussey, IA. Participants run repeated laps of a set course; each lap is 4.167 miles and must be completed in 60 minutes. The race has a 12 hour cap, which corresponds to 50 miles at the 12 hour mark.
Runners must return to the starting corral at the top of each hour or they are disqualified. Three, two, and one minute warnings will be given before the hour. Runners may not leave the course other than to use the restroom. Spectators and crew, including eliminated runners, are not allowed on the course. No pacers or personal aids such as trekking poles are permitted. Slower runners must allow others to pass. After completing a lap, participants may receive aid from their crew at the corral.
The course begins and ends at the barn and is mostly grass with some gravel; runners should expect roots, rocks, uneven surfaces, and a possibility of water this time of year. Snacks will be available at the starting corral and at an aid station.
Logistics: early packet pick up is available on Friday and crews may set up on Saturday. There will be a mandatory pre-race meeting for all participants. The crew area is east of the barn; tents or canopies are allowed, vehicles must use designated parking, there is limited electricity, and crews must remove their trash and keep noise down. Several hotel options exist in Knoxville.
Registration uses three pricing tiers with increases on May 1 and August 1. A t-shirt add-on is available for $25 to registrants before the August 1 price increase. No refunds or transfers. The winner receives a medal and prize package; other participants receive results as distance covered and laps completed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
